Pseudonocardia sp. str. CC030328-06 was directly isolated from the visible white mat of Actinobacteria present on the cuticle of a fungus-growing ant Mycetarotes parallelus (Cafaro 2010). Strain CC030328-06 is a defensive symbiont thought to be maintained by M. parallelus due to its ability to produce antibiotic compounds active against pathogens that parasitize M. parallelus’s fungus gardens.
