Pseudonocardia saturnea NRRL-B16172, the type strain of this species, was originally isolated as an aerosol (Hirsch 1960). Its genome was sequenced due to this free-living species’ close phylogenetic relationship with Pseudonocardia symbionts of the fungus-growing ant genera Apterostigma, Acromyrmex and Trachymyrmex.
