Anaerobaculum hydrogeniformans

Anaerobic Isolate

Anaerobaculum hydrogeniformans (No 16S rRNA gene available) is a member of the Synergistetes division of the domain bacteria and has been isolated from an anaerobic environmental sample from Alaska, where the 16S analysis puts it very close to related anaerobaculum species isolated from fecal samples and from the oral cavity. This strain was selected because it is much more amenable to detailed physiological and biochemical characterizations in the lab. The sequenced strain was obtained from Rob Gunsalus, Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics - UCLA.
