Group Leader of Sequencing Annotation, Genome Sequencing Center
Research Accomplishments & Interests
Dr. John Spieth is Leader of the Analysis Group at the Genome Sequencing Center and an Associate Research Professor in Genetics (http://www.genetics.wustl.edu/faculty.htm). He is primarily responsible for leading the genome annotation and analysis efforts of the Sequencing Center but also oversees data submissions to NCBI and the WormBase (http://www.wormbase.org/) sequence curation effort.

Dr. Spieth received his Ph.D from the University of Washington and did post-doctoral work at Indiana University before joining the Indiana University Biology Department Faculty where his research focused on gene regulation, RNA processing and splicing in nematodes, primarily Caenorhabditis elegans.

John came to the Genome Sequencing Center and Genetics Department in 1995 to analyze and annotate the C. elegans genome. He became Leader of the newly-formed Analysis Group in 2001. This group has contributed to the analysis and publication of human chromosome 2 and 4, and several bacterial genomes. The group is currently working on additional bacterial genomes, three fungal genomes, two drosophila genomes and several worm genomes.

John is co-PI and a founding member of WormBase, the model organism database for C. elegans.
